The Friendship was donated originally to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. It was there for many years. some time back it was transferred to the National Air and Space Museum , part of the Smithsonian, in Washington where it is now. The Lockheed Vega was a regular production aircraft of the day and not a customized special or experimental craft like an X-craft such as the X-l or X-l5. This distinction is important, The craft has a beautiful red and gold color scheme suggesting PRR locomotive colors of the thirties. No, it was not called the Friendship- that was a Fokker. The Vega was nicknamed by Amelia the ( Red Bus) but it had no formal code name, to my knowledge.
