Helen Keller's story was largely written by herself, with the assistance of her teacher and friend Anne Sullivan. Anne Sullivan taught Helen sign language and helped her communicate her experiences and thoughts. Helen Keller later went on to write several books about her life.
Helen Keller herself wrote her autobiography "The Story of My Life" in 1903 at the age of 22. It was not until 1957 that the first version of The Miracle Worker was written by William Gibson, becoming a play in 1959 and a film in 1962.
