Amerigo Vespucci sailed for Guyana on April 10, 1497 on what was his first maiden exploration from Cadiz Spain under the blessing of King Ferdinand of Spain. Because of his excellent exploration, navigation and cartography skills, the Americas derived its name from the feminized Latin version of his first name as a sign of honour to him.
