Hey! My teacher gave me a worksheet, and it says right on it... the U.S. got the Red River Basin in 1818. 'Welcome! Is your school IN North Dakota? What I'D learned in ND history class was that it was part of the Louisiana Purchase. (1803?) The Lewis & Clark (the name of the elementary school in Fargo where I learned this ;O) Expedition wintered over near Bismarck on their way to the Pacific....
