Joseph John Thomson discovered electrons in 1897 while studying the flow of electricity in a cathode ray tube. By applying an electrical current to the vacuum tube, he observed a stream of negatively charged particles moving from the cathode to the anode, identifying them as electrons.

Glass is classified as an insulator because its molecular structure does not allow electrons to flow easily through it. This means that glass does not conduct electricity well and is often used to insulate electrical circuits to prevent current flow.

For Current(Electricity) to travel through an object valence electrons are required. Most metals have valence electrons hence are good conductors of electricity. In case of glass and wood free electrons are not present hence electricity does not flow through them.
The glass rod loses electrons when rubbed with a silk cloth. This leaves the glass rod positively charged as it loses negative electrons to the silk cloth through friction.
Electrons find it most difficult to flow through insulating materials like rubber, glass, and plastic. These materials have very high resistance to the flow of electric current, which makes it harder for electrons to move through them.
Glass can become positively charged through a process called triboelectric charging. When two materials are rubbed together, electrons can be transferred from one material to the other, leading one to become positively charged (loses electrons) and the other negatively charged (gains electrons). Glass tends to lose electrons easily, resulting in a positive charge.
Electrons do not readily flow through insulating materials, which have a high resistance to the flow of electric current due to their tightly bound electrons. Examples of insulating materials include rubber, plastic, and glass.
