The meaning of TB is tuberculosis. TB is a fatal disease that can be passed from person to person. It is caused by bacteria and mainly attacks the lungs.
TB is not a bacteria but a mycobacterium. Most people who become infected do get sick but not everyone infected with TB bacteria becomes sick.Roughly 5% of people infected with M. tuberculosis actually develop TB. But there are people who are infected but not sick. They have latent TB infection. Those who have a latent infection are asymptomatic, do not feel sick, and are not contagious. In short it is not considered a bacteria and in some cases it does be come inactive.
The immune system attacks the foreign antigen as if it were any bacterial infection. The B-cell lymphocytes mark the TB with antibodies that helps it remember the bacteria in the future. The macrophage then consumes the TB bacteria and keeps it latent, and the TB is unable to infect the body or be contagious. However, if the immune system fails to contain the TB, or it becomes weakened by age, malnutrition or another disease like AIDS, the TB bacteria can escape and infect the body, which is why people can get TB during old age or without a TB infected person coming in contact with them.
