The heating effect of electric current was discovered by James Prescott Joule in the mid-19th century. Joule's experiments showed that the temperature of a conductor increases when an electric current passes through it.
The thermo-electric effect was discovered by Thomas Johann Seebeck in 1821. He observed the generation of an electric current when two different conductors were joined at two different temperatures, leading to the development of thermocouples.
The chemical effect of electric current, known as electrolysis, was discovered by William Nicholson and Anthony Carlisle in 1800. They found that passing an electric current through water caused it to split into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen.

The magnetic effect of electric current is known as electromagnetic effect. It is observed that when a compass is brought near a current carrying conductor the needle of compass gets deflected because of flow of electricity. This shows that electric current produces a magnetic effect.

The electromagnet effect is used in an electric bell. When the current flows through the coil, it creates a magnetic field that attracts the iron armature, causing the bell to ring.
