Sir Isaac newton discovered that white light was made of seven different colors in the 17th century. He was able to prove that when some of the white light from the sun passes through a prism shaped piece of glass, the light scatters into a spectrum, which is a spectrum of what we know as the rainbow.

Does the prism change the color of the light?

A prism will split white light into its constituent colours (the colours of the rainbow). "White light" is the light we see around us i.e. natural light from the sun. This light is made up of all the colours in the visible spectrum

Is white light monochromatic light?

No exactly the contrary, white light is made up of light of all the colours of the rainbow. And you need to take that literally. The rainbow has these colours because rain acts as a prism and breaks the white light of the sun apart in the colours it is made up of. Because monochromatic means 'of one and the same colour', white light is not monochromatic. LASER light is always monochromatic: all particles have exactly the same wavelength (colour)

How are prism and refract related?

When white light passes through a triangular prism, it refracts, meaning, the light bends. When white light refracts, it disperses (separates) into the colours it is made up of - ie. the colours of the rainbow.

What happens when light falls on a white objects?

We see colours because of white light (visible light) which is made up of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple light. We see colours when some fo these colours are absorbed into the object and the others are reflected. If an object is white that means all the light reflects off the object

What colours are present in white light?

We get the white light because white light is made up of different colours of light. These are the colours you see in a rainbow - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet,(roygbiv). You can also remember it as ( richard of york gains battle in vain ). Or in primary level it is also called (vibgyor).

Who discovered that light is made up of 7 colours?

Is light white?

Light appears white, however it is made up of different colours, which when put together make white light. These colours can be seen if you direct light through a prism. At the right angle the light is split up into the colours (rainbow).

What color can absorb all other seven colors of Sun?

white light is made up of all the colours so that means white light can absorb all the colours

How is white light is made of colors?

By Dispersion Of light (We call the phenomenon of spiliting of white light into 7 colours as dispersion of light.).......... You Can use Prism.....

Why does rainbows have many colors?

Rainbow is made from refraction & total internal reflection of light of the sun. The light of sun is white, which is combination of 7 colours. When rainbow occoures, white light is divide into all these colours. That's why rainbows have many colours.

What did newton prove with the prism?

That white light is made up of all the colours of light mixed together.

What colors of light made up white light?

Red, green and blue. These colours make up every other colour, though, so you could say that light is made up of all colours.
