Yes you would call Direct TV and follow the instructions they give you. These instructions will be simple and effective and put you in the right Direction to purchasing your Direct TV.
There are several companies that provide direct TV, with HD and DVR. DirectTVPlus HD DVR offers a service where you can record, watch, and delete shows in any room, with just one HD DVR.
Direct TV offers DVR service as an option with its service.
Most TV providers provide DVR. I have Charter and I use their DVR service. I know that UVerse, Direct TV, and Comcast also offer DVR. It is great! I never miss my favorite shows now!

The DVR is placed between a source of television signal (set top box or direct cable or TV antenna) and your television set. It allows you to schedule and record / store TV shows from the source and watch them later.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to transfer saved programs between the two receivers
No,it will not work becuase it has a controller card in the slot,it means you own it especially if you have to move then you can take the DVR with you.You own it without paying any fees other than the service fees.
Both direct tv and Dish Network offer a DVR tryp receiver.
