Volume can be measured in different ways depending on what king of substance do you want to measure. Also, depending on the application.

Volume is equivalent to: Length x Width x Height.

Liquids, on the contrary, are measured using a graduated cylinder.

Solids can be measured by calculating the difference between the volumes. The volum e of the liquid, and the volume of the liquid with the solid in it. The difference of the two values is the volume of the solid. This is because, solids are measured by the amount of liquid volume that is displace.
