Roman Catholic AnswerThere seems to be a lot of confusion about the Immaculate Conception, even among Catholics - who should know better! The Immaculate Conception refers to the Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in her mother's (Anne's) womb. From the first moment of her conception she was preserved from original sin. Thus Mary was the only person, saving Our Blessed Lord himself, who was conceived and did not have original sin affecting them in any way. Our Blessed Lord's birth is referred to as the Virgin Birth, as His Father, in the way of His conception was the Holy Spirit who overshadowed the Blessed Virgin. This is NOT the Immaculate Conception. That refers to a normal conception, that of Our Blessed Lady who was conceived in the normal way. The only other people who came into the world without original sin were Adam and Eve, but they were not conceived, they were created that way.
