The astronomer Edwin Hubble was the first to find evidence of the expansion of the Universe, through his observations of distant galaxies.
He observed that light emitted from most of the distant galaxies was more red in color. This is known as the Doppler effect or Doppler shift, where objects that emit a certain wavelength and move away from the observer appear to have a longer wavelength than the true wavelengths to the observer. It's the opposite case when objects emitting waves that are coming closer to the observer. These observations lead Hubble to believe that these surrounding red-shifted galaxies are moving away from us. Since most of the galaxies were moving away from us, and since Hubble found that with increasing distance between the galaxies there is an increasing speed at which they are moving apart, he concluded that the Universe was and still is expanding.
The universe is expanding.

It is because the Universe is expanding.
All the available evidence strongly indicates that the Universe is, indeed, expanding.
...And the Ever Expanding Universe was created on 2009-07-14.
1. the universe continues to keep expanding 2. the universe slowly stops expanding 3. big crunch (basically the universe will stop expanding and fall back into itself)
the universe is expanding continuously even right now as you read this little sentence I wrote.
It is not exactly expanding into anything. The galaxies are moving apart from each other, from which we can infer that the universe is expanding. Theoretically, this is a result of the Big Bang, in which the universe began when all matter was compacted into a very tiny sum, and then exploded apart in a very big bang, and as a result is still expanding today.
Yes. The Universe is expanding.
The universe is expanding.
No, it is expanding. No, it is expanding. No, it is expanding. No, it is expanding.
Edwin Hubble was responsible for the concept of the universe expanding.
