Ekwefi follows Chielo and Ezinma to the cave.
Okonkwo also comes to the cave later on, though not directly following Chielo's route.
In Chinua Achebe's novel "Things Fall Apart," it is Okonkwo who follows Chielo and Ezinma during their journey to the Oracle. Okonkwo is Ezinma's father and he accompanies them to the shrine to ensure Ezinma's safety.
Ekwefi, Ezinma's mother, follows Chielo as she goes around the 9 villages with Ezinma on her back.
Ekwefi follows Chielo because she is devoted to her daughter, Ezinma, and is concerned about her well-being. She trusts Chielo as the priestess of the Oracle of the Hills and Caves and believes in the power of the deity. Ekwefi's love for her daughter outweighs her fears and doubts, leading her to follow Chielo to protect Ezinma.
Chielo wanted to take Ezinma to be seen by Agbala. In honesty, Chielo may have just been lonely, as she was a widow who only had 2 children of her own, not a great family. She had taken a particular fondness with Ezinma, calling her 'my daughter'.
Chielo carried Ezinma away.
Chielo brought Ezinma to Agbala's shrine to seek spiritual guidance from the Oracle, who may provide insights or advice on Ezinma's health and well-being. Additionally, Chielo, as the priestess of Agbala, may have been fulfilling her duty to the gods by carrying out a sacred ritual or seeking divine intervention for Ezinma's sake.
Chielo takes Ezinma to see Agbala. She goes around the 9 villages, into the cave of the shrine of the Oracle of Hills and Caves, and then back to Ezinma's bed to sleep.
Ekwefi follows Chielo as she goes to the other village and finally back to her cave. She then waits outside the cave, not daring to invoke the god's wrath upon herself. While she is following Chielo and Ezinma, Ekwefi tries to take care not to be discovered by Chielo, and thus displease the gods.
Chielo announces that she is to take Ezinma to see Agbala, the Oracle of the Hills and Caves. She believes Ezinma has been chosen by the Oracle and must undergo a spiritual journey.
Ezinma is safely returned by Okonkwo and Ekwefi after they discover her hidden in the oracle caves, where she was taken by Chielo, the priestess of Agbala. Chielo brings Ezinma back to her parents unharmed, as it was all part of the oracle's plan to test Okonkwo's loyalty.
*Okonkwo *Ezinma *Things Also, Chielo comes for Ezinma. Chielo is constantly being "possesed," and she says Agbala wants to see Ezinma.
The Oracle of Agbala comes to take Ezinma. She is normally called Chielo.
Chielo, the priestess of Agbala, interrupts the story Ezinma is about to tell her mother by shouting Ezinma's name outside the compound.
Chielo is friends with Ekwefi, and they get along well. Chielo sometimes gives bean cakes to Ekwefi to give to Ezinma. However, when Chielo becomes the priestess, she becomes like a completely separate person with no empathetic relationship with Ekwefi. Ekwefi is afraid of this incarnation of Chielo.
