Vitamins were first identified in the early 1900's although the problems associated with deficiencies were identified many years before. 2600 years ago the Chinese identified the problem beriberi from eating certain types of rice, later identified as a vitamin B deficiency from eating polished rice.

In 1747 a British Naval surgeon treated curvy with citrus juice. while vitamins were not known as the cure for these issues.

The Chinese developed a concoction for treating night blindness later found to be high in vitamin A.

The name vitamin- A Polish scientist Casimir Funk discovered a substance in the rice husks he called vital amine later identified as thiamin vitamin B1 which became vitamine then vitamin. Then came vitamin A identified in fat, then in the 1930's and 40's the rest of the vitamins followed
