It is now reliably believed that the first people came to Ireland by sea from the north of Spain. There is a lot of genetic evidence to support this and people in the west of Ireland in particular bare a resemblance to people in northern Spain. That is not, as many believe, a result of the survivors of the Spanish Armada settling in Ireland.
