Stegosaurus was an herbivore, or plant eater. They would have found their food while foraging, which they probably spent most of the day and night doing.
The Late Jurassic.
Most stegosaurs had 16 long spines on their tails, back, and shoulders. Stegosaurus is unusual for a stegosaur, because it only has four spines on its tail.

The Jurassic period lasted from about 201 to 145 million years ago. It was known for the dominance of dinosaurs, including iconic ones like the Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, and Allosaurus. This period also saw the evolution of early birds and the diversification of plant life, including the emergence of flowering plants.
All stegosaurs were herbivorous. Remember that Brontosaurus itself did not exist. It was erroneously constructed from sauropod pieces of different genera. All existent sauropods however were herbivorous.
Stegosaurus is a genus of stegosaurid dinosaur. It has been found in North America and Portugal, a country in Europe. Stegosaurs in general have been found in North America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, but not Australia, Antarctica, or South America.
Stegosaurus had bony plates on its back and tail.
Stegosaurus fossils come from the Morrison Formation in the western USA. States that have revealed Stegosaurus remains include Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah. In 2006 it was announced that Stegosaurus had just been found in Portugal.
