The Dutch (from the Netherlands, east of the UK, west of Germany and north of Beligium and France).

They bought Manhattan from the Indians at a price of one guilder for every square meter.

Later they founded Harlem (named after the Dutch city of Haarlem).

After a while as the English controlled more and more of the eastern US, the Dutch traded NYC for Suriname (in South America)
