They say: "The ACLU is our nation's guardian of liberty, working daily in courts, legislatures and communities to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties that the Constitution and laws of the United States guarantee everyone in this country." So if Democrats somehow worked to reduce your rights under the Constitution the ACLU would fight that just as much as if Monarchists had somehow reduced your rights. Confusion comes in because the ACLU is dedicated to protecting your rights under the Constitution and Democrats are also generally dedicated to protecting your rights under the constitution. "Generally," but not always, Democrats have been the target of ACLU efforts in the past. A member of the Monarchist party, for example, would not be concerned with an individual's rights as Monarchists believe in the Divine Right of Kings and not in democracy. The ACLU would not allow the Constitution to be trampled by Monarchists or any other organized group.
