Later there was an attempt to find a suitable word to replace the expression 'the Final Solution [of the Jewish Question]', which was the Nazis' own term for it.
The word Holocaust in this specific sense first came into widespread use around 1980, following the showing of a TV miniseries of the same name.

∙ 9y agoThe typical name given the holocaust by Jews is, "Shoah", or in Hebrew, "Ha Shoah". This word means, "The catastrophe", and refers to the systematic torture and murder of millions of Jews by the German police and soldiers in World War 2. "Holocaust" is a fairly new name given to the atrocities and murders committed by the German police and soldiers on any of the peoples that Hitler did not like.
