Madge, the mayor's daughter.
Madge, Katniss's friend, gives the mockingjay pin to Katniss as a token for her to carry in the Arena. It also appeared as her token in the Quarter Quell that Katniss is in, her second Hunger Games. It becomes the national symbol, in the Capitol a fashion symbol, in the Districts a symbol of rebellion.
Madge comes to the justice building to say goodbye to Katniss and asks Katniss to wear the pin as her district token.
Madge Undersee.Madge Undersee was the mayor's daughter, and one of Katniss's closest friends, though she was never really sure of this fact due to Madge's shy quietness. In The Hunger Games, while in the visiting room before deporting to the Capitol, Madge visits Katniss and gives her the Mockingjay pin, which used to be Madge's aunt's, Maysilee Donner, as her District 12 token. Madge then kissed Katniss on the cheek shyly and left.Note: In the film adaption of The Hunger Games, Prim, Katniss's sister, gives her the Mockingjay pin after Katniss purchases it for Prim for good luck.
Spoiler Alert: Katniss resembles the mockingjay which leads a war between the districts and the capitol in the third book. The mockingjay is also on the pin that Madge gave Katniss. (this is how she was called the mockingjay in the first place)
District 11 sent Katniss a loaf of bread as a token of thanks and condolence after Rue's death.
In Chapter 3 of The Hunger Games Katniss and Peeta are talon into custody by the Peacekeepers. Katniss says her goodbyes, and Madge who gives her the Mockingjay pin for her token. After the visits Katniss and Peeta are taken to a train where they are fed. They also watch recaps of the Reapings.
The Mockingjay pin was given to Katniss by Madge Undersee, the mayor of District 12's daughter. After Katniss volunteered to take Prim's place in the Games, and was taken to the Justice Building, Madge was her third visitor. There, she begged Katniss to take it as her token, as every tribute can bring a token to remind them of their district. It is revealed in Catching Fire that the original owner of the pin was a girl called Maysilee Donner, who is the aunt of Madge Undersee and a fellow ally of Haymitch Abernathy.
In the book The Hunger Games Madge gave Katniss the mockingjay pin because later learned in Catching Fire, Madge's mother's twin sister was a tribute in the Hunger Games and Katniss's mother's best friend. So the pin was given to signal rebellion towards the Capital, and a way to signal Madge as Katniss's friend.
Because Katniss's father used to sing with the mockingjays and it reminds her of him. It also lets Katniss know that she still has family at home and it gives her faith in the games. nobody else in the games is wearing that same pin so she is special.
In District 11, following Katniss' gesture of placing flowers on Rue's body and showing respect to her during the 74th Hunger Games, the citizens of District 11 show their gratitude by sending Katniss a gift of bread as a token of thanks for honoring Rue. This act symbolizes their appreciation and solidarity with Katniss.
The Hunger GamesCatching FireMockingjayAll are written by the same author, Suzanne Collins. I suggest you read them all, they are my favorites, along with the Harry Potters, Gone, Hunger, Lies, and Plague, the Maximum Rides, and the Help.
She was trying to get the silver bow and arrows from inside the mouth of the Cornicopia, but was distracted by Peeta and only managed to get a 1m squared sheet of waterproof plastic and a loaf of bread (ultimately lost during the grapple with the boy from District 9). As Clove aimed at her with a knife, she also gained a long-handled knife with a serrated edge near the wood. She also managed to grab an orange backpack containing a packet of dried beef strips, a small stack of crackers, a pair of night-goggles, a water bottle (empty).
