It's really hard to say; and in fact this is a complicated comparison to make, since both presidents operated under different economic challenges. But that said, according to the non-partisan Bureau of Labor Statistics, President Obama has created more jobs in 5 years in office than President Bush did in 8 years. Under President Bush, especially during his final year and a half, an escalating recession cost the economy more than 8 million jobs, and the US economy is only now recovering from that. Most of the jobs that were lost during that period have now been recovered, and more than 1.5 million more jobs have been created under President Obama.

But while that sounds like good news for Mr. Obama, it should be noted that wages have not grown, and some sources say that more than half of the jobs (or even as many as 70%) that have been created are either part-time, or jobs with lower salaries and few benefits. The recovery has also been uneven-- a few areas of the country are doing well, while others continue to struggle. On the other hand, neither Mr. Obama nor Mr. Bush comes close to Bill Clinton for job creation-- in his eight years in office, he created 22.8 million jobs, many with good wages.
