If it has leaves around the base it is not dead, but if it was a grafted tree it may be that the graft has died and left the rootstock.
He goes back to live with his parents when he leaves the show!

If the tulip flowered in the spring the leaves should have died down naturally therefore leave them alone as they are next springs shoots.
