There have been different forms of the World Snooker Championship since the first in 1927.

Since the World championships moved to the Crucible, Sheffield in 1977, the World champions have been:

Stephen Hendry (7), Steve Davis (6), Ronnie O'Sullivan (3), John Higgins (3), Mark Williams (2), with Alex Higgins, Shaun Murphy, Graeme Dott, John Parrott, Peter Ebdon, Joe Johnson, Terry Griffiths, Dennis Taylor, Ken Doherty, Neil Robertson, John Spencer, Ray Reardon & Cliff Thorburn all winning 1 title there.

Between 1969 and 1976, Ray Reardon won 5, John Spencer won 2 and Alex Higgins won 1.

Prior to 1969 Joe Davis won 15, John Pullman won 7, Fred Davis won 3, Walter Donaldson won 2 and Horace Lindrum won 1.
