Of course, the film skyrocketed in popularity and Kenner was forced to sell empty boxes (so as to meet the demand of the Christmas season) with certificates that young fans could mail to the company to await their action figures in the mail sometime in 1978. Still, there were some Star Wars toys introduced around the same time as the original film.
