Perhaps "invented" isn't the right word--art has been a part of human culture since their evolution, or creation, whichever you believe. Art isn't so much an invention of humans as a demonstration or expression, which is natural. Some of the earliest forms of Chinese art are found in the Yangshao culture during the neolithic period, and much of the art was forms of unpainted pottery (which can merely be considered a commodity instead of art). However, the later dated ceramics did have images and designs on them, which falls more into the art category.
