I dont know if anyone invented it, but ever since automobiles have been invented they have been racing each other. Rally racing is, technically, the first ever event, it just didn't called that until later, after other types of racing were made (I.e.NASCAR).

∙ 13y agoRace cars were not invented. Cars were raced almost from the inception of the automobile. As soon as there were two cars in an area a race was almost inevitable, to see which was the fastest. Late on cars were modified by owners to gain speed. No one person was ever given credit for the first race car.
Henry Ford should be given credit for inventing the racecar.
Actually Henry Ford only invented the race car. The real credit should be given to Carl Benz who was born in 1844, 10 years after Gottlieb Daimler the other inventor. Both Germans were mechanical engineers who worked to develop internal combustion engines that ran on liquid gasoline. Then they installed the engines on bicycles, carriages and other vehicles that were normally powered by people or animals. When these early experiments worked well, the inventors continued to improve their designs until the first cars were ready to race. So the credit should be given to te two inventors who introduced racing cars to our world.
