A countersunk screw is one which hides the head below the surface of the wood or material. This provides a smooth surface after the screw is driven in.
You can use a countersunk screw in projects that involve wood. This might be a bench or even some sort of container that opens and closes.
To countersink is to penetrate past the exterior level. For example if you screw a screw into a piece of wood with a screw gun that is set on drill, and it penetrates past the surface it would be countersunk.
Although archeologists have found rivet technology going back some 3000 years. Modern Pop Rivets, otherwise known as Blind Rivets, are reported to have been invented sometime in the 1930's by engineers Carl Cherry and Louis C. Huck. The Pop Rivet was actually developed by The George Tucker Eyelet Co. in Birmingham England in the 1930's. Cherry Rivets are similar but have a small ring that is seated in the head of the rivet when it is formed and the mandrel broken off. Two types of Cherry rivets are the Cherry Lock and the Cherry Bulb.

I assume the rivet you are asking about is a "tinners" rivet and not a more common "blind" rivet (commonly known as a "pop" rivet). If this the case the tool you want is called a "rivet set".

They invented the screwdriver for just this problem. or maybe it's a rivet problem. a rock
upset -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Upsetting the rivet is to compress the rivet during the installation process. That can be done with a rivet gun to "hammer" the rivet against a bucking bar, or to use a rivet squeezer to compress the rivet.
