In my opinion, God invented the first ship and Noah built it for the great flood. This can be found in the Book of Genesis chapter 6 starting at verse 9, which begins the account of the great flood and Noah building the Ark which was the first ship ever built. The major civilizations such as the Greek, the Romans and any others that lived on or near water built boats for trade purposes. Later on they used them for war and invasions.
