Adolphe Sax invented the Saxophone in 1846. He wanted to create a link between woodwind and brass instruments in military bands, so he created what we now know as the alto sax. He didn't plan to make more, but somebody convinced him to create the full quartet, and the rest is history.

Can you play a song with an alto sax that is played with a tenor sax?

The answer is no.I tried it and i can't.You can play either with alto sax either with tenor sax.No with both of them. If you mean playing a song that has a tenor sax on an alto sax, you have to transpose all the notes and the key signature down 5 half steps.

What does an alto sax sound like if you use a tenor sax mouthpiece with it?

It sounds the same, you just need to push in the mouthpiece into the neck. Just like saying, what would happen if you played a tenor saxophone with an alto saxophone mouthpiece. I have played a tenor before with my alto sax mouthpiece. What I meant to say was to push the mouthpiece in more than you would on the alto saxophone neck. The first time I answered I didn't sign in.
