who invented the bifocal lenses
Hi, Nobody knows exactly when spectacles were intended. It is very clear that they were invented between 1280 and 1300 A.D.
The first eyeglasses were made in Italy at about 1286.
It is said that eyeglasses were originally invented to help the aging population with reading. It wasn't until years later that eyeglasses for distance viewing was introduced.
Benjamin Franklin developed the 1780 Bifocals. He wrote in one of his journals, "I therefore had formerly two pairs of spectacles, which I shifted occasionally, as in traveling I sometimes read, and often wanted to regard the prospects. Finding this change troublesome, and not always sufficiently ready, I had the glasses cut and a half of each kind associated in the same circle. By this means, as I wear my own spectacles constantly, I have only to move my eyes up or down, as I want to see distinctly far or near, the proper glasses being always ready,"

Ben Franklin had poor vision and got tired of putting on his spectacles, and having to take them off again, so, he invented a way to see both near and far by taking half of a lens from two different pairs of spectacles and put each half into a single frame. He called them bifocals. The year he invented them was 1784.
It is lenses which Benjamin Franklin invented.
