In 1817, Sir William Cubitt suggested the use of treadmills (then called "treadwheels") to reform prisoners. This was their sole use of them until the first health club opened in 1894 (owned by Professor Louis Attila). The first medical treadmill was pioneered in 1952 by Dr. Robert Bruce and Wayne Quinton at the University of Washington. The 1968 paper that drove the popularity of treadmills through the roof was written by Dr. Kenneth Cooper, and explained the benefits of aerobic excersize.

∙ 14y agoThe treadmill is a machine that is used by people to do exercises like walking, jogging and running at home. It was designed for people who do not have the time or the facilities (like a jogging track) to perform an efficient workout. This machine helps you achieve the same results as you would get from a jogging track from the comfort of your home.
Note: A treadmill is good but it can never replace a good round of jogging in a jogging track. If you have tracks around your home you are better off using them.
