From a biblical perspective, the Creation account in Genesis clearly states that the Logos or the Word, the other divine being in the current God Family, creates everything that is seen and unseen. It continues with the creation of Adam, the first human being. And like all human beings today, language is learned from (a) parents. In the biblical scenario, the Word spoke to Adam who incorporated the words into a functional language for him to communicate with his Creator and later his wife Eve (the first woman created) and eventually to all others. Adam named all the animals in the Garden and God made it a permanent naming, allowing mankind to rule his new Paradise.

Many linguist today believe the original language of mankind was extremely complex and 'pure' as the people generally lived in the same area and all used the words learned from their Creator. Contrary to popular belief, language has not “evolved,” but instead has actually “devolved” from a very sophisticated system. The diversity and complexity of language is evidence that God, not human beings, is the original author of languages.

Dr. Mario Pei, a world-renowned linguist and author, states: “If there is one thing on which all linguists are fully agreed, it is that the problem of the origin of human speech is still unsolved…Human language, in contrast with animal cries, displays infinite variability, both in time and in space…In one sense, the reason for the changeability of language is as mysterious as the origin of language itself” ( The Story of Language, 1965, pp. 21-23).
