Absolutely Fabulous (Ab Fab)
Jennifer Saunders played Edina "Eddie" Monsoon in the BBC series "Absolutely Fabulous" (A.K.A. "Ab Fab"). Saunders created the series with her comedy partner, Dawn French (also known for her hit series, "The Vicar of Dibley."), but wrote the show herself.
Season 1, Episode 1, originally aired on BBC in November 1992.
I'm straight, and I find it quite entertaining (although I admit I haven't seen an episode in years; I'm not even sure if my cable provider still carries BBC-America).
It is not absolutely reliable
Doctor Who isn't based on a book. It was an original series created by Verity Lambert in the 60's for the BBC. There are books that are based on the characters in the TV show, but the TV show came first.

Jennifer Saunders has ruled out any possibility of a sixth season. In October 2008 however, Joanna Lumley suggested that she would like to do another special if the opportunity arose. Jennifer Saunders is also working with Fox TV in America to produce a US version of the show. Perhaps this will be the catalyst for another UK special but there will definitely never be another series of the show.
