I grew up in the L.A. area in the 40's and 50's. Because Barham was my maiden name, I too wondered who the street was named after. I once heard it was a man who was editor of one of the daily newspapers in Los Angeles.

You are partly correct! Barham Blvd was named after my father's (Kirk Barham) grandfather's (Michael Barham) uncle, Frank Barham. He was partners in a publishing business with William Randolph Hearst (The Herald Examiner).

My mother's maiden name was Barham. She was descended from Fitzurse who was leader of the 4 knights who murdered Thomas a Becket. Because of the scandal he had to anglicise his name. Bar and Urse = Bear and Ham and Fitz = son of!
