West End Blues. Originally written by King Oliver, Louis Armstrong remade the tune after leaving Oliver's band and forming his own ensemble called "Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five." This was a move advised to him by his second wife, Lil Hardin, who at the time was also a vocalist in Oliver's band. When Armstrong first cut the recording, it was with Lil and the other members of the Hot Five with 78 RPM vinyl on June 28th, 1928 - seventeen days after Oliver published the track with Brunswick Records.
