The man whom the Apostle Peter cut the ear off of was Malchus, a servant of the high priest. This incident occurred when Jesus was being arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane before his crucifixion, and Peter attempted to defend him with a sword.

Peter cut off the ear of the high priest's servant, but Jesus told him to put his sword away and healed the man's ear. This action by Peter was not in line with Jesus' teachings of non-violence.
