Who is Maurice Anthony Simmons?

The first African-American Engineer Specialized Search Dog (SSD) Handler in the United States Army. Maurice Anthony Simmons graduated from the Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray, England. He was teamed up with his canine partner, who he refers to as his son, Sam (F714). Maurice and Sam or better known to his family, friends and loved ones as SaMoE deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) 2004-2005 and then again in 2006-2007. The Units of the Engineer Canine Company are 67TH Mine Dog Detection Detachment, 94TH Specialized Search Dog Detachment, and the 49th Specialized Search Dog Detachment. Maurice Anthony Simmons, Specialist in the United States Army is still currently serving Active Duty. SSD Sam is currently in the process of being adopted by SPC Simmons.
