St. Patrick was a British man, born just about the time the Roman Empire was withdrawing its forces from Britain, who was Christian. He was kidnapped by Irish pirates and made a slave in Ireland in his late teens. He escaped, returned home, entered the clergy, and returned to Ireland as a missionary. Now he is the patron saint of Ireland and the Irish.
