Prince Siddhartha Guatama created Buddhism. When he was 30 he dropped his wealth and his family to go find the solution to human suffering. He belived that you look inwardly and meditate to find answers. After he meditated and fasted for 49 days and found the answer to suffering.
Siddhartha was once a prince. His dad was King Śuddhodana and his mother was Queen Maya. When his mother was pregnant, she had a dream.
In her dream, she was on top of Mount. Himalaya and around her strolled a magnificent white elephant with 6 tusks. Then the elephant suddenly struck her right side. The next day, Brahmins(priest) came to interpret the dream. They told her that he had 2 paths to choose from.
1. He would be a greatest ruler in history.
2. He would follow the path of enlightenment.
King Śuddhodana wanted his son to become a great ruler. So, he kept his son locked up in the palace and gave him only the finest pleasures, wealth, and amusement. When he grew older, he married a fine noblewoman. Over the time. he was curious about the world outside of the palace. Since he was older now, he had more freedom. Little did he know about the world outside of his palace, and what he will discover. On his first trip, he discovered aging. On his second trip, he discovered sickness. On his third trip, he discovered death. It hadn't occur to him that these things will happen to him too. On his third trip, he saw a man. The man was called an ascetic. Ascetics try to reach enlightenment and follow the ways of the Buddha. They try to give up luxurious pleasures and wealth; to find inner peace. Prince Siddhartha liked the description of the ways of the ascetic. That night, he went into the forest in simple clothing and was bare foot, with only a bowl of alms: A gift of foods. He was half starved and cold, but he still followed the path. One day, a grass cutter gave him 8 handfuls of soft, green grass. He had a feeling that he was going to get enlightenment so he bathed and went to the Bodhi tree to meditate. During his meditation, Mara, the god of evil and chaos sent his daughters: Naughty, Tempting and Desire. Siddhartha ignored all of them and awoke from meditation. From the time period dawn to morning, Siddhartha had become the Buddha.
