Who is SpongeBob SquarePants truly?

SpongeBob is a yellow sponge and lives in a pineapple at the bottom of the ocean with his pet snail, Gary. He works at the Krusty Krab as a fry cook for Mr. Krabs, with his co-worker/neighbor, Squidward, a squid and cheapstake owner of the Krusty Krab that hates SpongeBob, but does show effection at times. His other neighbor is his best friend, Patrick Star, who lives under a rock. Patrick is rather lazy and fun, and almost everything he owns is made out of the sand that he happily lives in.
