Why did Bob Marley have dreadlocks?

AnswerBob Marley was a Rastafarian - he believed that the messiah had returned in the form of Hailie Selassie I - like many Jamaicans during his time & until now. Rastafarian's did not fear the "Babylon" system & did and continue to do things not to follow the dictations of the western society that states what's wrong and right & gives people rules to live by. By doing this people are brainwashed to a certain degree.....this is what Rasta's despise - FREEDOM is what they crave & sieze.Dreadlocks is a form of statement to say Rasta's will look a certain way - do the things they want to do and breaking from the dictations of what should be done according to one person's narrow point of view. It's much deeper than dreadlocks, rebellion, statement - it's become a Rastaman's identity."Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds" Bob MarleyAnswerThere are many religions who dread, but the Rastas take certain Bible references like the Nazerene vow very seriously. Samson and Jesus were Nazerites; a Nazerite takes a vow to not touch the fruit of the grape, nor cut or comb the hair or come in contact with the dead -- even a loved one who's passed. The Nazerite vow is a 100 day vow, but many Rastas make it a lifelong commitment. The vow is not a requirement of Rasta religion, but supporting Bible verses state that only the Nazerites can speak directly to God (or Jah) and only the Nazerites can enter the kingdom of heaven. Rastas who dread believe that come Judgment Day, Jah will drag his hand across the land, and the dreads of the righteous will tangle in his fingers and be lifted to the promised land. The vow of the Nazerites come from the Old Testament, so can be considered common to the Jewish, Christian and Rasta faiths alike.

Do Rastafarians believe in Jesus Christ?

no Yes they do! Rastas believe: * that Jesus was God in the flesh (an incarnation of God) come in the form of Mary's son who died on the cross to pay for man's sins. (thusly, by definition they are a form of Christianity.) * that Haile Selassie was the 2nd coming of Jesus, or re-incarnation of God in the flesh come to usher in the kingdom of God. (God's government or way of governing.) * the original Hebrews in the bible were of African descent, Jesus included. * the "promised land" mentioned in The Bible was not located in The Middle East, but in Africa, formerly known as Cush/Ethiopia. (Ethiopia used to encompass most of modern day Africa.) * members of the African diaspora are direct descendants of these Hebrews/12 tribes of Israel mentioned in the bible. * they must follow the Levitical Laws outlined in the Old Testament of the bible. Therefor, the majority of them are vegetarians. * both Samson the Nazerene/Nazerite of whom it is said had 7 locks of hair, and Jesus of Nazereth were from a strict sect of Jews that swore by the Nazerite vow of not cutting their hair. Thus they wear there hair in locks and refuse to cut it, as it is said to contain their strength. * this worlds system is a form of slavery and deception carried out by the descendants or the spirit of the former Babylonian Empire that must be resisted, fought against and eventually destroyed. * Marijuana/ Ganja is an herb given by God/ Jah that can be traced back to the times of King Solomon, to help them to separate their mentality from the stresses and oppression of this world's system. (Babylon) They also feels that it aids them in spirituality. * There primary message in today's times is that of Love for all people, Unity and Desegregation.

Why do rastafarian wear hat?

Rastafarian's choose not to cut their hair for they belive that it will weaken them. Also, they belive it's a way to be closer to Jah. Growing dreadlocks is a spiritual journey for Rasta, and they believe that it teaches patience.
