Answer 1

Jihadist is the person who struggles to obey God orders and strive to fulfill good career and to satisfy his/her family requirements. He/She is not the one who practice terrorism and destroy properties. Refer to questions below.

Answer 2

Contrary to the view in Answer 1, the term Jihadist is popularly used to refer to those fighters who organize in violent paramilitaries and terrorist organizations with the intent of conquering territory and subjecting it to a very strict understanding of Shari'a (Islamic Law). Muslims can debate whether or not these fighters are "true Muslims", but all Jihadists make the claim that they are doing what they are doing in the name of Islam.

The name for these people derives from Jihad (جهاد), which is a tenet of Islam and a religious duty to strive in the way of God. There are two general ways to do this, the Greater Jihad and the Lesser Jihad. The Greater Jihad is an introspective journey to conquer your internal demons and follow the Divine Laws more closely than previously; this kind of jihad should be entirely peaceful. The Lesser Jihad refers to conflicts and confrontations between Muslims and Non-Muslims or other Muslims, which often erupt in war, but can also be performed through non-violent protests, debate, and advocacy. Jihadists argue that there needs to be a violent lesser jihad across the entire world to force all people to be subject to the Shari'a.

A person who fulfills the Greater Jihad is not popularly referred to as Jihadist, rather they are usually referred to as a "Moderate Muslim".
