Who is the best singer Mariah Carey or Whitney Houston?

I think Whitney Houston is by far the better singer all parts of her vocal range are strong, unlike mariah if she didnt have the wistle people whouldnt care, although mariah is right behind whitney

This isn't a question based on facts, it's a question based on opinion. That being said, I would say Whitney Houston. Her voice has a better tone, and she always sings "live", something Mariah Carey seems afraid to do. Whitney's voice is also louder than Mariah's; Whitney can easily be heard over the accompanying band she is performing with. She also has spent most of her entire 26 year career touring "live", minus a few years. Mariah has barely toured in her entire 20 year career. Whitney is also better at singing coyly; Mariah's coy voice doesn't sound as smooth, she's just basically whispering. Whitney tends to think long term; she records songs that will stand the test of time and sell her entire album. The albums are listenable years and even decades later, with or without major hits. Mariah tends to focus on the short term, recording songs she thinks will be a hit now, even though they may be forgotten about and unrememberable two years later. That has no direct bearing on actual singing, but if an artist focuses on songs and not hits, their entire back catalouge of music will consist of better albums. Whitney is also more interesting than Mariah, and has better stage presence, and she doesn't seem to be intimidated by things as Mariah can sometimes seem. But as far as singers, they both are excellent. Even though they may have lost something over the decades, they still sound sing better, and just as good, as the singers who hit the scene well after them. They both have sold tons of albums. I enjoy songs by both artists, but I give the edge to Whitney.

Well, they use to be just as good, but Whitney has done coke and messed up her voice A LOT, while Mariah may have a little wear on her voice from overusing it or age, which is understandable if you have been singing for 20 years.

Well, Mariah Carey didn't do coke, so her voice is still alive and well. While Whitney has, so she has a lot of practicing and recovering before she can get back to where she was before.
