Saddles, cruder, but still recognizable as saddles, have been around so long that there's no record of who was really first with the idea of adding some complicated padding between himself and the horse.
And they've certainly been around longer than there's been African-Americans.
Plenty of people have helped refine the design ove the years, most of which will remain unnamed.
