Catapults are described in the Hebrew Bible (2 Chronicles 26:15), referring to a time about 2800 years ago, and the verse refers to different kinds being used, shooting arrows and throwing rocks. There is no record of who invented catapults, or even of what culture that person belonged to. It is possible they were invented more than once in more than one place.
