That was a pseudonym. Her real name was Bep Voskuijl, and she was one of the two secretaries of the firm, the other being Miep Gies. Bep's father was the person who built the "swinging bookcase" for those in hiding. Bep developed a strong bond with Anne, and later in life named her own daughter Anne Marie in honor of Anne.
