The current US dime has a portrait of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, 32nd President of the United States, on the front.
His picture was put on the dime in 1946, following his death in 1945, because of his involvement with the March of Dimes. FDR had been paralyzed from the waist down by polio since 1921 and helped found the March of Dimes as a way to raise money for research into a cure or vaccine. As we now can be thankful, a vaccine was developed by Dr. Jonas Salk a decade later.
