Prior to the release of the The Golden Compass on December 7, 2007, New Line said that an adaptation of The Subtle Knife would go into production only if the first film was a success. The Golden Compass did well world wide, however it flopped in the US making the making of the film The Subtle Knife unclear.
There will not be a Subtle Knife film, there would be no reason to making a sequel to a bad film.

Red hair is not needed for the audition but will probably be died for the film. The whole cast list has not been completed so I am unsure of who should play Angelica. Yes. There will be. In an interview, the director Chris Weitz said that they shot the ending for "The Golden Compass" based on "Northern lights" but they decided to put it at the beginning of "The Subtle Knife" when it comes out.
