He served until September 11, 2000, when his alliance was defeated in the 2000 election. Ramgoolam served as Leader of the Opposition from 2000 September 12 until 2005 July 5 when he again became Prime Minister after the 2005 election. In 2010, his political alliance again won the election, and he remains as Prime Minister to this day.
