It is safe to say that there were many, many heroes of World War II. Your question is too vague for us to give a precise answer, but here are a few suggestions of heroic figures during the war. One was certainly Audie Murphy, one of the most famous and decorated American combat soldiers of World War II-- among his many awards for bravery was the Medal of Honor, which he won at age 19. Oskar Schindler had a movie made about his efforts in rescuing about 2,000 Polish and Czech Jews who worked for him, but a lesser known and equally heroic figure is the Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara, who saved nearly 3,000 Lithuanian Jews.

Also impressive were the efforts of Irena Sendler, a Polish nurse and social worker who helped smuggle several thousands Jewish children out of the reach of the Nazis, saving their lives. Many Americans considered General Dwight D. Eisenhower a hero, since he commanded the victorious Allied Forces. And some of us in media applaud the heroic efforts of journalists like Edward R. Murrow, who kept the public informed even when bombs were falling around him, and who was one of the first to report on the concentration camps.
